.Homeschool Jumpstart Navigator (for Younger Children)
Catalog No. HSO-Jumpstart

By Barb Shelton.

Don't have a clue as to where to start homeschooling? Or RE-start, having burned out on too much "school at home"? For either case, this 90-page book is brimming with practical help for getting your child (re-)started onto a plan of learning ~ lots of real-life learning and "ample" academics...

Click details for a full description. (90 Pages/8 X 11" /Comb-bound)

===========================================================
Here's what one homeschool mom said:

"I have been reading your Jumpstart Navigator for Younger Children. Thank you for giving me confidence to get started. Having the knowledge in that book has made such a difference."

This is what Teresa Ward, one of Barb's List Shepherdesses and Online Secretaries has to say about this book:
"As is typical of Barb's books, this one is very readable and usable! [In fact, I've *used* mine so much, I had to buy another copy to show to others! LOL] The book starts with some encouragement, then a "To-Do" list, a section of articles written by others that makes the points we need to see, and then a vast section of ideas to use, including a variety of record-keeping forms (bet you weren't expecting FORMS, were you? ROFL). She finishes up by talking about the Season of ReEducation course she developed (although when this was originally written, it was a 12-step plan! LOL). This little booklet is a Godly Gold Mine!"

If your children have been in "regular school" or are burned-out on too much "school-at-home," they need time to "decompress" while getting occupied in some healthy "real-life learning." Once the child is set up with a "lite" academic/real-life-related plan ~ which this book helps you do ~ it will give you specific direction for getting YOU, the parent, going on a season of "re- education" in what "education" really is ~ which will be very freeing and joy-producing for you!

Have a 12-year-old and aren't sure whether you should get this book (for ages 4~12) or "Senior High: A Home-Designed Form+U+la" (for ages 12 and up?) Here's what homeschool mom, Patti Ballard said:

"Either book would be adaptable - but - I think using the Jumpstart Navigator would help *you* to focus on your 12-year-old's needs better. I just looked through every page again to refresh my memory. Other than just a very few
pages that would only be for the very young student - every is adaptable to a learner that needs to focus attention on learning by lifestyle. There are worksheets and some booklet ideas to get you started - but it was never meant to be "all inclusive". Once you get going with some of Barb's ideas in the book, you will then be ready to branch out to other areas as you master the scheduling and booklet techniques.
The assignment planning sheets in the Jumpstart Navigator are much less intimidating for use with a 12-year-old than those in Form+U+la would be. And they're great for training a learner that is needing to catch up and focus, or who, in other ways, struggles.
As in all of Barb's books - don't jump to the charts and forms, and skip the "heart" of her teachings. The first part of the book will encourage and focus you to meet the needs for your child as God is directing. Those pages are essential!" ~ Patti Ballard

[Back to Barb talking now...] :-) It is vital to know what education is before trying to do it with and for our kids! But most folks when first starting out, don't realize this. Our minds are still "unrenewed" in this vast arena of education ~ which is only natural. Our society is steeped in the public school system, so we naturally see that as being "the norm" and even "the best." Yet, that system is not producing the desired fruit in our children. Even so, new homeschoolers rush out to buy hundreds of dollars worth of curriculum, start funneling that down their kids' heads, and within a year or two ~ sometimes it takes just a few weeks or months ~ burn out! There's still a place for prepared curriculum, but, like TV dinners, which are very handy, and all set up for you ~ there are no decisions to make other than which one(s) to get. A steady diet of this is not the "healthiest" option. You can make those decisions, and this book shows you how to start ~ and how simple it is ~ and gives lots of practical tools to use with your children! (90 Pages / 8_ X 11" / Comb-bound)

.Senior High: A Home-Designed Form+U+la
Catalog No. HSO-Senior

By Barb Shelton.

The tendency at the high school level is, as one homeschool mom said, to "just buckle down, take the textbooks by the horns and just DO it!" But as this mom sadly added: "The joy went right out the window!"

For those just starting out, and even for seasoned homeschoolers who, up until high school, have taken a more creative approach, this book is oozing with inspiration and practical HELP for homeschooling through high school: record-keeping ideas, what to do about requirements (and make them serve your and God's purposes, not just you serve them!), how to translate real-life learning into senior high classes and credits, how to set up your own high school Master Framework Plan, creative grading guidelines, masters for transcripts and diplomas, learning guides for many subject areas, complete how-to's for setting up a student notebook, and many many samples to use as bouncing-off points.

Booklet Building Book, The
Catalog No. HSO-Booklet

By Barb Shelton.

This is an easy-to-use tool for creative, hands-on learning in many subjects! One homeschool mom said: "I've enjoyed working with your books and the kids. My son has written a few books now and finishing them up on the computer has helped him to enjoy writing even more. Thanks for the vehicle to making writing and homeschooling easier."

Ted Wade, (author of The Homeschooling Manual) says of the book: "Young hands need to be active, but they are often given only busywork. This idea combines activity with creativity for meaningful, delight-directed learning." It's geared for 'just- starting-to-read-n-write-ers' up through about age 12. It has over 35 different reproducible masters, each one being a hands-on project in itself!

This is what Teresa Ward, one of Barb's List Shepherdesses and Online Secretaries has to say about this book:
"This book is more than just masters for the pages of the booklets your kids will love making, it is full of ideas to embellish the booklets, to make them truly unique & personal. Making booklets is a fabulous, real-life way of collecting, organizing, & diplaying your child's learning. They are useful for developing language & communication skills without the dreary drudgery of worksheets! These pages matter!!!!!!!!! Barb also shares many ideas for binding your children's works of heart."

Mom just copies the ones she wants to use (children can go through and select the ones they are interested in!) It includes complete directions and ideas for forming them into a "make-my-own" booklets like "Buds-to-Blossoms Book"; "Grandparent Book"; "Around My Town Book"; "Days of Creation"; "Planets"; "A Week in My Life," and "Tree 'n' Leaf Book." Course Syllabus
Catalog No. HSO-Syllabus

This is not a "to read" book, but rather is a "journaling guide and companion" for those taking Barb's "Season of Re-education and Renewing of the Mind." This is NOT included in the Guide-a-log or anywhere online. This book is like a "guided journal" through the course, giving you a place to record what the Lord is doing in and speaking to you; what you're getting out of it. This is a very simple approach, with each page consisting of two charts for two different books of the course, with a few questions for you to answer; to personalize what you are reading. Here is a Sample page from the "Season of Re-education" Syllabus just to give you an idea of what it's like ~ and how simple and personalized it really is. (For those taking this course to "qualify" to homeschool in Washington state, the syllabus must be photocopied when you are done and sent to us as "proof of completion.")
